Change is hard but doesn’t have to be
Humans are great at setting goals, but not nearly as good at attaining them. Why?
Is the barrier to change a lack of knowledge, support, skill, or capacity?
Perhaps you know what to do and how to do it, but just can’t.
Sometimes skill-building is required in addition to finding motivation and accountability.
Learning a new skill or way of being demands conscious attention. Did you know we humans can only fully attend to one thing at a time?
Changing a way or behavior can feel really hard, and it is because it means directing your limited mental focus on one goal and ignoring others.
Willpower is another aspect that must be present to succeed, not to mention patients. Think about it, if you have 30 years of doing something a certain way, it may take 30 years to unravel the unconscious habit of doing things, now I am exaggerating, but my point is it will take time. There will be slips, but the key is not to let these slips derail you completely, brush yourself off, forgive the slip and get back in the game!
Behavior change will always be hard. No advice can change that, no one can do it alone and shouldn’t be sure to hire a coach for a week, a month or year to get the support and accountability that will increase your odds to success by 100%
My clients report they are more aware, more conscious about all the decisions they make during the day with what they put in their mouth, sleep, hydration, movement and are implementing stress-reducing habits because they have me on their side. Someone that believes in them, and they don’t want to disappoint or let me down…
